Santos Brasil

New:  Logo, brand architecture and visual system

Launched:  March 16, 2010

Story in brief:
It's primarily a strategic rebranding, by the company originally founded for container-handling in the Brazilian port of Santos, now broadening its scope (and incorporating acquisitions) to become a provider of integrated logistics solutions in a wider range of places and industries.  It's also structural, to integrate the acquired companies into a seamlessly branded portfolio of services, thus:

To signal a proprietary corporate presence (the name itself being merely a place name), and to anchor the various unit signatures, Cauduro Associados, one of Brazil's longest-established identity firms, designed an evocative monogram 'S' symbol. Green and blue appropriately suggest land and sea, both joined and separated by the S-shaped road (or beach?). The palette and S-curve also provide the key components of a distinctive visual system

First Impressions:
Strategy:  Gold star for the monolithic brand architecture, whose unit signatures verbally convey diverse capabilities, yet visually convey unity of vision and purpose; another gold star for use of a symbol to convey companyhood.
Design:  No gimmicks (highlights, tones, shadows); a straightforward yet thoughtful solution. It works as beautifully in one color (reversed) as in two.

Corporate Brand Matrix ratings:
30% structural,  60% strategic,  10% functional (est.)
